Witnesses in the Valley of Argolida, where he stayed and found dead, broke their silence and transferred important information to Tunnel, which opened a new path to research.
The victim was a captain in the shipyard of a well-known shipowner. At noon on Monday, December 8, 2014, he was shot dead, dropped in a pool of blood in the courtyard of his best friend’s home. The murderous revolver, which was covered with his head and his right hand, belonged to his friend. His own was the bloody knife found next to the victim. The same man found him a breeze in his yard.
The scene in the place was set to show suicide. However, the investigations of Nafplion Police officers and the Criminal Laboratories that followed closely showed that this was a murder. The bullets he received on his chest and head came from the same 32-degree revolver of his friend. Only one cup was found in the gun mill. The clothes he wore were holes from the bullets, taken out and thrown by him.
The murder weapon was originally in a drawer of the house, whose outside door was locked. The keys of the door were on the victim’s keyfob at the engine starter. The captain found his friend and owner of the house but police and doctor arrived at the site much later. During his transfer to the Kranidi Medical Center Thanasis Lambrou died.
Witnesses who saw him with his engine after eleven and a half in the main road leading to his friend’s home, spoke in the “Tunnel”. They described that Thanassis was upset, not responding to their greetings.
His cousin, who was the last person who spoke to him on the phone around eleven and twenty, told the show that he was at home calm. Unknown why he immediately took his motobike and left as he wanted to check something. The fact that his pocket, cell phone and cigarettes were left behind showed his unexpected departure from his house.
“I saw Thanasis beaten and his blouse pulled out”
Tunnel found an important witness who was found at the scene of the crime before the police arrived. That afternoon around two he returned to his house in Koilada. He saw his neighbor Takis along with a friend standing in the yard clearly upset. “They were talking in their mobiles as though something very serious had happened. I approached, I asked them but did not answer me, as if they did not see me, “he said to” Tunnel “and continued. “His friend had anxious. Then came a relative of the victim’s wife and told me to go see if Thanasis is alive”.
The witness walked to the side of the courtyard and saw Thanasis face down on the floor in a pool of blood. He noticed that his short-sleeved shirt was outstretched.
At that moment two police patrols arrived with a doctor who ran to the victim’s side. He turned him back, found that he was still breathing and asked for the help of those who were there to be transferred as soon as possible to Kranidi Health Center. He was out on the road.
The witness who was in the area this afternoon claimed he did not hear shots. Somebody else heard something, but he assumed they were coming from a hunter’s gun.
Minister’s intervention
The victim’s sister sent a letter to the competent ministers to speed up the investigation to reveal the murder and find the guilty. The Minister of Citizen Protection informed the family that a further police team would further investigate the case. The preliminary investigation took a four-month extension, following a written request from the District Prosecutor’s Office.
The first testimony of the wife
The victim’s wife, Dimitra Lambrou-Voulgari, initially described to Tunnel’s camera what happened on that fatal Monday, December 8, 2014.
Like every morning around eight, she took her daughter in school and returned home. She had a coffee with her husband, talked for a while, and prepared to leave with her car for Kranidi. In the last few days her husband was cold and did not go to work. Shortly before she left, he asked if she would come to take the keys to the house with her and he replied that she was not going to go anywhere and asked her not to be late. Leaving the house, she stopped at a cafeteria on the coastal road of the Koilada. There she met her sister and a girlfriend and had a coffee. Later, she put gas in her car and headed for Kranidi to pick up some parcels from a courier company.
She realized that his motorbike was missing from the house when she went to get food from her mother;s house and her daughter from school. She returned and called her husband on his cell phone, but it was turned off. She started her English lesson with her students and called him back but the phone was deactivated.
Around three her sister called her. She told her that Thanasis was at the Health Center because they had shot him. Until then, she had not noticed that his cell phone and his handbag were in an armchair in the living room.
What his sister and brother-in-law said
“At first we thought it was suicide with one sphere found in the chest. The Coroner told us that Thanasis had another bullet in his head “said the sister of the victim, Athanasia Lambrou, to Tunnel’s camera.
Dressed in black and with eyes swollen from crying, she was trying to learn the truth. “My brother may have had little talk with some, but not to such an extent as to hurt him. I do not know what was going on inside his house. With his wife for a long time we had formal relationships. ”
She knew her brother had keys to the house of his best friend, in whose yard he was shot. His friend found them after the incident, but he told them he did not know anything. He just returned home and saw this spectacle.
Trying to bring together the pieces of the puzzle, the brother in law of the victim, Costas Vorgias, wondered why Thanasis had to leave the house without taking his handbag and his mobile phone, which was never leaving back. “My mind goes somewhere but I can not talk. Everybody says that behind the murder there are no economic reasons, but erotic ones. But the police do not say anything to us, “he said.
“My differences with the victim would be settled in court”
Tunnel spoke to the man with whom the victim was in dispute and recorded his own version of what was being heard in the Koilada society. According to rumors, the trial of their case would be the day after the murder. As he clarified by speaking on the show, the trial was scheduled for May 2015, about six months later than the killer.
As he said they had from old differences between them, but he had chosen to resolve them through the judicial route claiming from the victim about 25 thousand euros. A year and a half ago, Lambrou broke the windscreen of the witness’s car because he was angry with a nephew.
The witness at the time of the murder was in his work in Argos and was informed of the incident the afternoon of the same day.
“I only live for the moment they will catch them”
As soon as Dimitra Lambrou was informed of the injury of her husband, she took her 10-year-old daughter and headed to the Cranidi Health Center. There was a lot of people gathered there and trying to find out what had happened. They were told that Thanasis was dead and broke out: “I did not believe it, my mind was empty, I thought I was watching a movie,” he said to Tunnel.
Asked by the reporter whether she thought who the offender might be, she replied: “My mind went to a specific person but I was not a hundred percent sure. I thought he was quarreling with a person with whom he had disagreements, and that was all the trouble. “
Late in the evening and after filing in the investigation department, police assembled her at home to finally find and hand over her husband’s cell phone.
The reporter asked her how she responded when she learned that her husband was shot in the house of her family friend and even his own gun. Talk to my friend after the incident? She replied that he was not in a psychological position to communicate with him and kept a distance because he did not want to give a handful of more comments.
In her neck she wore a pendant with her husband’s name. “I may look a little detouched,” she said to “Tunnel”, but I cried a lot and now I put my feelings aside. What I feel is just hate and enormous pain. I will feel pleasure when they catch the perpetrators. For this time I live. “
