On the morning of Wednesday, January 16, at the Mixed Court of Appeal of Athens, found themselves again the troubled mother, relatives and friends of the unfortunate young man, seeking to know the truth about his fate.
The son of the main accused once again was not presented nor found in his house by police officers to testify at the court.
The meeting began with the victim’s friends’ testimonies. They described Mario as a protective person to his mother who helped anyone who needed, even if he was going to be harmed. One of the friends reported on the first days of kidnapping stating that one son of the main accused advised them not to report to the authorities the abduction because they were not relatives!
Another friend testified that two days before the kidnapping of the young man, they had come out with the victim and the son of the “mastermind”. When the car of Marios was found on a street of Palaio Faliro, he went to see it. He said that in his opinion there was no way the victim could park his car in such a way.
The big question of Marios’s friends was why he lied to his mother and returned to Athens from Diakofto where he was on vacation. They even said they were communicating with the son of the mastermind to learn what had happened. But he did not give them clear answers and concealed them that his father had spoken with him on the night of abduction.
Then a witness who failed to complete his testimony at the previous hearing was examined. This witness, together with one other person, was summoned by the court to file a case for the first time after another person’s twstimony now accused of perjury, and referred to a regular trial. These people are heard in telephone conversations with the main accused, on dates of particular interest in the case.
At the previous hearing, the civil action filed a request that one of the two to be examed in opposition with the one who, when he testified, was accused of perjury. Although this particular person appeared in court with his lawyer, the counter-examination could not be carried out because of the absenceof the legal representative of the victims family and was set for the next meeting on Thursday January 24.
On the same day, one more witness will be examined, a girlfriend of Marios at the request of the defense side, which the Seat accepted. According to the lawyer of the main accused, her testimony can contribute to the case and clarify the reason why Marios returned to Athens the fateful night.
Angeliki Nikolouli, whose investigation has helped change the indictment for the main accused and sentenced to life imprisonment for the manslaughter of the unfortunate young person, will also testify.
