Angeliki testified at the trial for the murder of the captain

The details of her investigation and the background of the murder case of the captain in Koilada Argolis were presented by Angeliki Nikolouli at Nafplio Mixed Court of Appeals.

The well-known journalist was the first witness to be called on Tuesday’s September 10 hearing.

In her testimony, which lasted about two hours, she presented the important points illuminated by Tunnel’s research.

The journalist said that the accused told the show that the victim’s small hand bag with his cellphone that always had with him was  found it prominently on an armchair in their living room, but had not noticed it from the beginning because it was covered by a jacket. However, the small bag had been found elsewhere in the house where she and her sister suggested …

When the victim’s widow was asked by the show whether the knife next to him was their own, she replied that it belonged to the captain’s close friend in whose house  was shot and that “she heard that the perpetrators used to take off the gun cap from  the old weapon. ”

 Widow in Tunnel…

During filming at the scene, the journalist emphasized that the captain’s widow, who was initially convicted of life imprisonment for his murder, appeared particularly comfortable and extremely accurate when referring to dates, hours and minutes. She herself was emotionally apathetic.

As in the first trial, Angeliki Nikolouli described to the court the defendant’s attitude when she appeared live on her show. She was worried about “if her sayings were okay” and was heard to ask her companion :

“How was I?  “. She even asked him him if … he was happy with her performance.

In related questions, the researcher responded at the court that it has occurred that relatives or friends of victims have been accommodated in the show after pressure from their close people and their social environment. Their goal was to show that they were interested, and in the process they proved themselves the killers of the people for who they were seeking the truth …

The friend…

The investigator further testified that the captain’s close friend, in whose house was found , asked her to meet her at her  office in Athens. He insisted that the captain committed suicide. Asked by the journalist why he throw away the bullets, he said he was afraid of getting into trouble because the gun was his own and he had it illegally. He also told her that the couple had no good relations, faced serious financial problems because the defendant was spenting money recklessly, so the victim borrowed money to cover obligations. He also mentioned that the captain believed his wife was cheating on him.

The reaction of the defense part…

What the well-known journalist told the court caused the defense’s reaction. One of them, after acknowledging her experience and significant successes, pointed out that the accused was arrested after appearing on her show.

“My show is not court, sir. It is probable that the accused in the case fell into contradictions that the police found. Moreover, after her intervention in the broadcast police officers from Athens,  participated in the investigation. Do you think that all these experienced police officers and an honest prosecutor conspired so the accused to be described as a murderer ? I was informed by colleagues that when she confessed her husband’s murder, she was  aware of all her rights but agreed to disclose all that had happened without the presence of a lawyer. I think she’s a smart, educated woman who would never be trapped by others, “said Angeliki Nikolouli.

The weapon….

Then one of the two defense attorneys showed the reporter a fake gun, pointed it at her and said:

“Suppose this is the weapon used. There are fingerprints everywhere. Nowhere is one of the accused. How do you explain that? ”

“I think if anyone goes to the point  wanting to cover a homocide as a suicide , it might cover some evidence. He could very well wipe the gun and touch the victim’s hand to keep his fingerprints, “the journalist replied.

The lawyer insisted there were other items on the gun that were not illuminated.

Angeliki Nikolouli cited the opinion of some experts who claim that on an old weapon could have left fingerprints from third parties who used it in the past.

In other persistent questions by defense counsel and the Chair if she believes the captain was murdered by his wife, the investigator replied:

“It does not matter what I believe, or whoever the witness is testifying , but what she herself has said in her confession that she did not sign and what the evidence that the court is examining shows.”

Accused to the journalist…

The defendant,  addressed Angeliki Nikolouli, asked :

“You said I’m clever, do you think there are clever and stupid killers?”

“This needs a whole analysis. I think if someone is smart, it’s a gift. Just because you’re smart, someone wouldn’t easily trap you, “the journalist replied.

Defense attorneys then told her defendant that they did not agree with her intention to ask questions to the witness.

The victim’s family lawyer, George Georgopoulos, told  “Tunnel”:

“Upon completing her examination, Mrs. Nikolouli, with her immense experience, provided us with clear information and an accurate picture of the accused on and off the camera, illuminating many aspects of her character and her attempt to conceal the crime.”

For his part, defense lawyer Alexis Stefanakis said:

“It may be suicide or murder, but in no way the accused is involved.”

In all, more than twenty witnesses have been called to testify in the trial, which will continue on Thursday, September 12. In addition to Angeliki Nikolouli, relatives of the victim, a girlfriend, the police officer in front of whom the accused confessed to the crime, and the captain’s lifelong friend have already been examined.

The defense also requested that the defendant’s mother, father, sister and son-in-law be accepted by the civil action.

The chronicle  of the case

On December 8, 2014, 42-year-old Thanassis Lambros was found shot in the house of a friend. The deadly revolver covered with his head and the victim’s right hand belonged to his friend. His own was the bloody knife found next to the captain. The same man found him bloodied in his backyard, but police and a doctor arrived much later. Thanassis Lambrou died during his transport to the Kranidi Medical Center.

Angeliki Nikolouli and her colleagues started the investigation after a call from the victim’s sister. Thanassis Lambros’ relatives from the first moment did not believe that the man had committed suicide as initially claimed by the authorities, but that he was murdered. For this reason, a letter was sent to the Minister responsible for requesting the investigation of experienced police officers.
