A crowd of people gathered outside the courthouse at noon Friday 10 November, where the 58-year-old Manolis Essatzanian -Soropides apologized. Citizens who responded to the call of Doras’s sister for support, threatened him.

He refused what he said to his initial testimony and blamed the victim

The accused at the investigator, blamed more or less the victim, of the offender, as he “turned upside” what he accepted in his confession to the police.
He claimed he had no intention to kill her and that his victim had attacked him and  did not let him go… He also said she felt on the knife he held…

His apology follows:
“I was in a bad state because I had two days to take drugs. At one point I saw a bag on a bench and went to steal it, as I thought it had money in it. I took the bag in my hands and tried to leave. Then she grabbed my hair, told me “give me my bag” and tried to get her bag back. T There followed a struggle with the girl during which we both fell on the ground.
Then I took the knife I had in my possession to hurt her and let me go. But when she saw the knife got more angry and with one hand tried to catch me from the neck and with the other hand tried to catch my hand which was holding the knife. But perhaps she got caught with the knife, and so the hacks found in her hand. Finally I grabbed my own hand and I, in my attempt to avoid her, I had to hit her face. There was a struggle between us as I was trying to escape while she did not let me go.
The blow to the thoracic country seems serious and I do not remember exactly how it happened.
It is most likely that I struck her when I was on her in my attempt to leave. I lost my balance and maybe I hit her chest with the knife falling over her. There is also the possibility that she fell on the knife during the fight. I appreciate the struggle with her  lasted five to six minutes.
Sometime she realized or felt that she was hit and left me. She relied on one knee to get up and started walking by holding her belly and her left side to some women from whom she asked for help. During the fight she  cried out  twice “police”. Immediately after that, I took the bag and headed for the exit of the cemetery, to the railway lines. By the way I found my arms had blood and I wiped them with some napkins I had in my pocket. I handed the napkins to the cemetery.
I stepped out of the cemetery and headed for the Rizoupolis stadium, on a plot just below, emptying the bag and finding that it had a wallet containing five euros and bank cards. I took the money and the mobile while I left the bag on the plot. Then I went down to Omonia and went to a Pakistani shop in Sophocleous Street, where I sold the mobile phone for twenty euros. With that money and the five euros I bought from Vathi Square drugs. After a few days when I learned the girl’s death, I went to the land that I had left the bag, I threw some oil and burned it. ”
