The wave of decentralization, which suddenly expands, seems that is going to help the countryside to come to life again and is also going to give young people the opportunities in order to become productive. Most of them had moved to the center, especially in Athens and Thessaloniki trying to have more comfortable lives. The crisis that burst out, along with the unemployment that grew bigger, have brought young people to their knees. Their mind, however, which cannot be enslaved by any conqueror, is still working and as things stand, will achieve great things.
According to a research by the Ministry of Rural Development, it is revealed that around 1.5 million inhabitants of the basin of Thessaloniki and other big cities, wish to return to their birthplace in the countryside, where the cost of living appears to be much lower. The majority of these young people are graduates of universities and technical colleges in the productive ages from 25 to 44 years.
A proportion close to 50% would like to be in the agricultural field, farming and stock-raising. They express their interest in the oil production for organic farming, in the breed of snails and in the bee keeping.
Back to the family and to our land in order to rediscover the values that we had lost.
