Unexpected develpoment in the trial for Mario

Unexpected development arose in the trial for the kidnapping and murder of Marios Papageorgiou.

While on Wednesday, June 26th, everyone waited for the decision of the Joint Athens Court of Appeal to be announced, the defense lawyer requested that the procedure be discontinued next week because of personal reason.

It is worth noting that from the beginning of July the new Penal Code that will be implemented provides for lighter penalties in cases of homicides..

The motion of the lawyer caused the reaction of the lawyers of the victim:

“You should be aware that with the new law, the mitigators do not change, except for some cases, which do not include the case of the main accused,” the legal representative of the victim’s family said in court.

The prosecutor  said:

“I was surprised by the lawyer, we are not used to such behavior! However, the accused is accused, but the attorney’s behavior is abusive! ”

After a five-minute interruption, the court finally decided to resume the trial on Wednesday 3 July.

Developments have provoked the anger of Marius’s relatives. Together with the victim’s friends, as well as ordinary citizens, they had gathered early in court to support his mother.

“We believe in Justice and God, and we need to know where Marios is buried.” The “mastermind” is unpredictable, and if we do not know it from his mouth, we hope to learn it from the mouth of someone else who will decide to tell the truth .. “, they said in their statements.

After twenty meetings, the main accuser not only did not say where he threw the body of the unlucky young man, but he had the audacity to claim in court that Marios lives abroad.

It is of great interest that the Prosecutor’s Supplementary Proposals, which may seriously call for prosecution of persons who have not yet been accused, are to be expected.

The lawyer in her initial proposal at the previous meeting accepted the involvement of two specific individuals in the case as collaborators of the main accused. For the first she acknowledged the meetings he had with him for the carriage of the corpse, and for the second he said he might have been involved in the murder of the young man. She had still voiced several questions about the attitude of one of the two police officers sons of the main accused and reserved to report on this at the end of the trial.

Revealed in the court were the testimonies of two major witnesses. The geneticist and forensic expert Dr. George Fitsialos and Angeliki Nikolouli.

The journalist’s investigation helped change the indictment of the main accused and convicted at first instance in life imprisonment for the manslaughter of the unfortunate young man.
