The reason was the revealing testimonies at the Athens Mixed Court of Appeal of two important witnesses. The geneticist and forensic expert Dr. George Fitsalos and Angeliki Nikolouli.
The journalist’s investigation helped change the indictment of the main accused and convicted at first instance in life imprisonment for the manslaughter of the unfortunate young man.
In “Tunnel” ‘s studio on Friday, February 15, the lawyer of the victim’s family, Nikos Roussopoulos, said:
“It was an important day and with two witnesses we actually saw this case unfolding… First we heard Mr. Fitsalou’s scientific analysis and then with your testimony Angeliki the court understood in a few minutes what had happened. An important point in your statement was what one of the defendants told you. That the night of abduction the “mastermind” gave him a broken and bloody cell phone to call the victim’s mother. This, as it was said to the Authorities, was not recorded anywhere. It is also woeful that a police officer son of the prime defendant cannot be found while it is pending an order forhis violent adaptation. My opinion is that this decision will justify us. Developments will be stalled at the end of the trial. Those who are sleeping quietly today and think that they are over with this case, are not over … “.
Commenting on this extraordinary case of Marios Papageorgiou, that “Tunnel” revealed the former police director Thanasis Katerinopoulos said:
“This story must be a lesson in the future in the productive schools of police. For the process of investigation and how it was evolved, but also for the errors and omissions of the Authorities… ”
Angeliki Nikoloulis will complete her testimony at the next meeting on Thursday, March 14th.
