“I revealed to them the torture to Vangelis”
Former fellow student of Vangelis Yakoumakis, who lives abroad, dared and revealed to Tunnel the violence and the terror that the 20-year-old was living by the “hard” Cretans.
In the past, he had also faced their brutality, but he was not afraid of them, and they stopped bothering him. He was the one who informed the School Director and the Head of the Center when he was aware of what Vangelis was doing.
They hit the unfortunate student, locked him in wardrobes, forced him to silly sing songs, put him in the toilets and turned off the water, leaving him with soaps and insulting him at every opportunity.
According to the witness, Vangelis was a polite character who, when he first came to the School, looked happy and full of dreams. Gradually he began to shut himself down and reduced his performance to lessons. He believed that if he continued to make friends they would stop bothering him. He did not want to cause trouble to his family or to the School.
When the witness informed the school officials of the violent incidents, they were forced to change his room. Vangelis then thanked him and told him “what acted like my brother”.
In his opinion, the Director of the School could not manage these extreme incidents. As he said in “Tunnel”, ” he dropped a heavy load and when he asked for help he did not get it from nowhere.”
He declared regretted to address a Director and not the Police with whom he was in contact. As he said, “What happened was a huge crime. I was in this school and I am ashamed to say it. Vangelis was a lamb who entered a herd of wolves … ”
“I watched the bruises in his hands”
Another former Dairy School student who knows people and things spoke to Angeliki Nikolouli. As he told the reporter, what happened to Vangelis was a common secret among students and professors. The bruises in his hands from bumps and bindings were commonplace.
He described to Angeliki Nikolouli the general violent behavior of certain “hard” Cretans. Without fear of anyone, they used to scrub doors, sinks and even trees from the Public Road. On the occasion of a fight with another student they temporarily drove them away from Shcool, but eventually found a way to return.
He also remembers that Vangelis was a happy young person in the first three months of the school. Then he fell into depression.
The children helped Vangelis to change the room in the hope that this change would put an end to his drama. Nowadays the former student who has graduated, regrets that he did not inform the police directly.
