The body of Takis Vazakopoulos, 21, was not found. But the man who thought he was his friend was first sentenced to life for his murder and went to prison.
The traces of the sensitive Takis were lost at midday on August 7, 2014. As the show revealed, his Bulgarian friend Ivan Mitev took him with his motorbike from a main road in Megalohori, Santorini, where he stayed and disappeared.
Takis was a musician, a leader of the Municipality’s Philharmonic, a basketball player of the local basketball team.
When he disappeared, his mother and aunt were found in the caldera where he used to go and relax, and found his cigarette lighter and his cigarette papers. The whole scene was “talking” about suicide, and special teams started to look for him. “Tunnel” survey showed that something else was happening and someone gave a fake image in the area for disorientation.
Aggeliki Nikolouli, during her live show in October of the same year, spoke with the missing boy friend. He replied that he was not the one who took Takis that afternoon and that he never gave to anyone his motorbike because it was his favourite.
That night the viewers acted better than a detective. A friend of “Tunnel” found in an ads site in Santorini, the particular motorbike to be sold. At the same time, Takis ‘friend’ was also selling his car. Once he realized that the show had spotted his ad, he immediately removed it!
Time passed and the family of Vazakopoulos was desperate. The stubborn research of the journalist brought in light the thriller of the young musician.
Three months after the disappearance of the young man, the owner of the motorbike confessed to the police officers who called him to testify, that he had quarreled with him and injured him deadly. He then set himself the scenery at the caldera with the cigarette papers of the victim, to appear that he had self-destructive tendencies and fell to the cliff. He first led the police to the dump where he had dropped the corpse as he told them, but when he saw the huge amount of garbage gathered there, he started the cat and mouse game.
In order to confuse the Authorities, he indicated different burial sites in a desolate field and in a seaside area. In the process, he changed the script and spoke of collaborators who had eliminated the body of Vazakopoulos. Eventually he got back what he initially confessed.
The stunning developments began with the important information that came to the show, when Angeliki Nikolouli appealed to the witnesses. The fact has bothered the accused’s family who did not hesitate during a live broadcast, threatening the journalist openly.
On April 14, 2016, Naxos Ancestor issued an arrest warrant for homicide intentionally in a quiet mental state for the Bulgarian friend of unlucky Takis Vazakopoulos. The step of civil action in the case of the murder of the young musician in Santorini was undertaken by distinguished lawyer Alexis Kougias.
On the show of Friday 15 April 2016 , the unknown conversations between Angeliki Nikolouli and the friend of Takis shocked.
Life sentence for Takis’ murderer
Following a judicial adventure, the Joint Court of Samos unanimously imposed a sentence of imprisonment for life, without mitigating, on Ivan Mitev for the murder of Takis Vazakopoulos.
The court also decided to send the case to the competent Naxos Prosecutor to investigate any involvement in the murder of two “friends” and three more witnesses for any criminal responsibility.
At the hearing of the decision, the tortured mother Maria Damaskinos and the brother of the unfortunate musician broke into tears.
With a trembling voice, the aunt of the victim, Argyro Georgiou, told Tunnel:
“We thank Justice and the whole world. I want through the depths of my heart to thank Angeliki Nikolouli separately. If it was not for you yet, everyone would think that Takis had committed suicide… We were right, but the torture is not over for us. I wish they reveal where our child has buried… To light a candle in his memory and help him rest in peace… “
Light in the Tunnel of murders…
This is not the first time the show has lit up a similar cases and has made a significant contribution to condemning the culprits for homicide, without confession and without a corpse.
Aggeliki Nikolouli, through profound research, has even went to court as a witness for cases such as Alex, Tania Charitopoulou, wealthy Athenian Maria Niotaki, the two women who were murdered in Mytilini in 2002 and the young optician Marios Papageorgiou .
