Rhodes: The revelations about the “nurse of death” are shocking…

The thriller of the ‘death nurse’ who confessed to four murders of infirm elderly people came to life on the night of Friday 25th November at the Tunnel.

The local community of Rhodes is upset with the murder of 75-year-old Flora Kazelli, by the woman who took care of her. Nothing predicted that on the morning of Monday, November 21, the neighbors in the quiet neighborhood in Kalythies would wake up and discover the unfortunate elderly woman murdered.

The 45-year-old woman, who worked as an exclusive carer, called the police and confessed that she had killed her. After her apology and with the unanimous decision of the regular Investigator and the Vice-Prosecutor of Misdemeanor Rhodes, she was temporarily remanded in custody.

Her confession for the other three murders of elderly women, two in Rhodes and one in Leros, is being investigated by the authorities as part of a preliminary examination ordered by the prosecutor.

Relatives of the two other women whom she describes as her victims, are not convinced that she is responsible for their deaths.

The accused put forward the claim of reduced imputation due to schizophrenia and submitted her previous medical opinions and documents from her incarceration in psychiatric institutions of Leros, Crete and Cyprus.

She was taken to Leros after her conviction, because she tried to drown her son when he was only one year old.

According to information, he will be transferred to Korydallos prisons, where a psychiatric examination will be carried out.

As she claimed in her plea, in the early hours of the morning, she kept hearing a voice telling her to “save her, save her, she’s suffering”.

He approached her on the bed, put his hand over her mouth and then covered her nose in an attempt to suffocate her. She took a pillow and as she described, completed her deed. When she realized what had happened she called the police herself.

The description in her testimony completely coincides with the findings of the medical examiner Rhodes on the face of the victim by the hand of the perpetrator. According to him, her death was due to “suffocation due to blockage of the airways”.

The lawyer Mr. Alexandris referred to the family environment of the 45-year-old, stressing that her parents beat her and mistreated her.

“I don’t know if that triggered the situation she found herself in afterwards, with the severe mental injuries,” he said, adding that neither her social nor her family environment paid attention to her.

“We had her for two weeks…”

A close relative of the deceased elderly woman in Rhodes, who was murdered by the woman who was hired to take care of her, spoke to a “Tunel” journalist about this shocking incident.

“He had only been taking care of her for two weeks. They were both happy, or at least they seemed so. Now what happened and it got to this point, we don’t know anything more… Her (relatives included) called her, she didn’t pick up and they got worried. A little later he answered and said that he had killed her. My son-in-law calls us worried that something has happened. When we arrived at the scene, the police were already there, they had notified themselves. Flora was finished… She died of suffocation. My son-in-law, who visited her often and took care of her, is shocked, he has fallen ill,” he stressed.

She and her son-in-law were the ones who hired her after some recommendations they got, since her son has been in an institution for years.

“She was taking care of two others here in the village. We asked and they said they were happy with this particular housekeeper.”
