On the morning of Wednesday, December 16, a citizen initially located his car, on a rural road between the old bridge Strymonas and Efkarpia, on the old national road to Nigrita, Serres.
At noon of the same day, two kilometers away, his body was found in an irrigation canal. Police and a medical examiner were called to the scene.
According to the coroner who performed the autopsy at the scene, the victim had received a fatal blow, with a sharp tool, which caused a “blind” wound at the height of the back, hit the aorta and caused the death from bleeding, which was confirmed and from the autopsy-necropsy, which was completed at noon on Thursday, December 17.
The autopsy also revealed that the victim had bruises on his left face that may have been caused by a fist and the time of his death is estimated to be in line with the date of disappearance as the icy mud and external conditions delayed the decomposition process.
Also, according to the medical examiners who performed the necropsy, this pointed instrument that was used may have been an agricultural tool, such as a planter or a wide spike. The coroners took, among other things, samples of genetic material from the victim’s fingernails in order to reveal the perpetrator’s DNA, from clothes, etc., while a toxicological examination was ordered. The victim was transported dead to the spot in the car he was using, after blood was found in the trunk and a knife, which, however, does not fit as the instrument of the crime.
Possibly, the perpetrator or perpetrators left the car there after their act or got stuck in the mud.
The investigation is in full swing and the Serres Police is taking statements and collecting findings from the car for laboratory analysis, in an effort to reach the Authorities as soon as possible to investigate the case and reveal the motives of this brutal murder and identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators.
