With the eyewitness continued the teacher’s trial from Agrinio

The trial of the murder of Nikos Mentzos, a teacher from Agrinio, who had been found charred in his car, on 21 April 2011, continued at the Mesolongi Court.

Eight years after his death, a woman of his close family environment sits with the charge of homicide intentional.

At this hearing, perhaps the most important witness in the case was examined, namely the eyewitness who had testified in the pre-trial and main trial that he had seen two people, a man and a woman on the spot.

First, he had spoken to Tunnel from the area. He saw them observe the progress of the fire, indifferent and cool, and how the woman’s behavior changed and began to scream as soon as the Fire Brigade arrived.

As the eyewitness described, his job was where the incident unfolded. “Before I go into my lab, I see a black smoke. It was 11:40 and I thought the lab was burning. From an opening I see in the background a lady and a gentleman not interested. He was wearing a sweater and the lady was wearing something orange. After five minutes I look back and see a car burning. I say after asking for help, something happens. I called my brother and informed him. ”

When his brother arrived, they both began to observe the fire. “The car was 40 meters away from me. We didn’t call the fire department. Let’s go and hear the fire brigade. From the same spot we were watching two men holding the woman and her shouting at me. The fire had already been extinguished. I say “A! Now you’re crying! ”

As the eyewitness explained after this incident, he thought it best to go to the prosecutor.

Defendant’s lawyers question the credibility of the eyewitness. At the end of the examination, the defense requested that the witness be examined and the witness on-site autopsy to determine whether a person was in a 50-meter distance.

Afte him the firefighter testified: “We were notified at 12:05 and arrived at 12:10. A high-intensity vehicle was burning. We found, after extinguishing the fire, that there was a charred corpse inside. The car had been burnt completely, and the victim had not worn the seat belt. The fire came in. The fire lasted 10 minutes. During the fire, a lady came and asked me if there was a man in the car. She had a concern. Then a gentleman came and asked me. I didn’t know if they were his relatives. I didn’t know the accused at all, I don’t remember her behavior. I saw two women and a man in the place. They were watching the fire from twenty meters away. ”

After they testified an educational colleague of Nikow Mentzos and an employee of the pastry shop where he and his wife worked. The trial will resume on 9 January 2020.
