The well-known journalist was asked by the court to testify as the first witness in the second day of the hearing on Wednesday, November 23. Even before she started the two defense lawyers of the widow who is accused for his murder, created unnecessary tension which caused the reaction of the chair.
After that, Angeliki Nikolouli for more than three hours was testifying the evidence brought to light by Tunnel survey, for the case. As reported, she and her colleagues began the research after an appeal by the victim s sister. His relatives had previously sent a letter to the relevant Minister with a request to undertake research experienced police officers since it was in their opinion a murder and not a suicide. Before she could complete the sentence abruptly interrupted by the defense lawyer who said: We do not need critical but events and caused once again the disappointed of the Chair who urged the journalist to continue.
During the filming she said you do not know how much I love this man, referring to the childhood friend of the victim at whose house was found dead. He was at that point, was annoyed and asked her to leave to talk to Tunnel journalists. As the investigation continued, the owner of the house did not want to appear on camera and insisted on the version of suicide. In between our conversation, when I asked him why he took the initiative to throw away an important element as the bullets that were in the drawer along with the weapon in question, he replied that he did not want to get into trouble.
He wanted to meet me in the office and came to Athens. He said that the victim was facing many problems. Economic nature but also with his wife, who was featured highly wasteful. When she asked if he knew who else may have had the house keys outside of the widow and the victim replied that he did not know if they had given the keys elsewhere continued the reporter.
Angeliki Nikolouli even referred to a witness who had come on the show, saying that the widow had been stabbed in the past her husband in hand. She was in the call center and saw the information, immediately replied that he had cut himself, but insisted to know who had given the information. Intervened again the defense lawyer who asked the witness if she knew if the accused had mistress provoking strong reaction of the Chair. Then the journalist referred to a neighbor who heard the day in question the victim yelling bitch I will kill you, a woman answered Thanassis dont! and after two shots.
She even described the attitude of the widow in the studio as information gathered and the investigation continued. At the breaks constantly was wondering about her appearance and was asking if she did well. As explained to the court the reporter microphones at live shows are open. She was heard asking the attendant, but also the family lawyer of her husband How was I?
Are these events?interrupted once again the defense counsel and caused the reac of the the president who said: Yes they are.
The witness went on to say that it was heard to ask her relatives during break if they were happy with her performance on the TV. She said she asked the widow for the mobile phone and the purse of her husband which he never parted, and was found as he said in the living room. She replied that she had not seen it although it was in a prominent position on an armchair. Impression had caused the journalist to the fact that when she was referring to her husband as HE with indifference and coldness.
When the President asked the journalist why she this case while she had so many others, Angeliki Nikolouli replied: We believed it was suicide. Something was there and had to do a research, moreover, the accused had asked us to search. At first she said a neighbor with whom the victim had economic differences, then for a relative of the victim who called him on the phone the fateful day. She was trying to find suspects and claimed that she is living to find the killers, the journalist concluded.
Intensity was towards the end of the examination one of the two lawyers of the accused, when Angeliki Nikolouli felt offended by his tone and his characterizations. He insisted with consecutive questions whether the accused is guilty and if she killed her husband, said the reporter. I did what I had to do. I testified for all the details of our investigation and not to create impressions with such extreme characterizations. The court alone is empowered to judge the guilt or innocence of an accused.
