“Mastermind”‘s did not make a defense statement

The morning of Monday, April 22, the session was held at the Athens Mixed Court of Appeal, where the extraordinary case of kidnapping and murder of Marios Papageorgiou was heard.

The main defendant did not appear at first to make a defence statement, something that even surprised his lawyer.

“I was suddenly surprised. On Friday I saw him he had acold, but I did not think his situation would prevent him from appearing, “his lawyer said. He said the “mastermind” would like to make a defence statement, but perhaps another day because of his health problems.

“It is not proven. We must order his violent adultery, during the sitting … “was the prosecutor’s reaction.

After a brief interruption, the hearing continued with another accused who said he was found along with the “mastermind” and another partner at an appointment while planning to kidnap the victim’s mother.

“They asked me with my brother to go to a house in Kallithea and steal money from a woman. I would drive and my brother would enter the house. We were promised a pocket money for the job, “he said. He also said that he had met the main accuser in a particular car cage and his brother in law brouht them in contact and that he had noticed in an incident that the police officers in front of him “bowed down”.

“I thought he was something like a retired police officer. I knew he worked as a driver to the US Embassy. I’m deeply saddened that the woman has not yet found her child. If I knew, I would not go. With my brother, we only wanted the pocket money they would give us to get our dose, “he concluded.

In the same tone, the other accused who said he was a chronic substance user .

“He had told us then to wait outside a lady’s house until she came out of it. Then I would go in and I would find in the kitchen a bag with 450 thousand euros. I was expecting the house to be empty, but I told them I would do my job and go to the appointment to give me money and get my dose. There was a consensus that when I was getting the money, the “mastermind” would vaccinate us, supposedly caught the kidnappers. ”

He also said that in the backseat of his car, the main defendant had a bulletproof bullet, a lighthouse and weapons in a bag.

“We were watching the house, but we never saw this lady.  I am a user and I went to jail. I know from my friends who are in the jailof Ioannina, where the main accused is also held, that he has more power than the chieftain … “he said.

At the end of his apology, he turned to the victim’s mother, to apologize, but was disapproved of by the audience.

After a pause of forty minutes, the main accused appeared in court, unshaved and sloppy.

The statement  of the defendants, as well as the Prosecutor’s proposals for themselves and any involvement of third parties, are of particular interest to the Joint Certified Court of Appeals of Athens at next hearing.
