Following the revelations of the show for the missing Kyriakos Mezidakis, a prosecutor intervened and instructed the divers to explore the sea area of Chania. A few days later, it was found that the port of Souda hid the macabre secret of the unfortunate father.
The disappearance and the role of the “fatal woman”
The traces of the 60-year-old Kyriakos Mezidakis, were lost in mid-October 2016 in Chania. He was disappeared with a blue Toyota Auris with red plates and circulation number MHS 7857 which belonged to his family.
From the very first moment, relatives and friends spoke on the show about Kyriakos’ devastating relationship with a “fatal” woman of the night who had invaded his life and led him to a financial stalemate.
This woman, of Romanian origin, was the last person who talked to him on the phone.
“Tunnel” survey found that this woman was telling others things to the family and others to the reporter of the show.
She claimed that the missing person had left a beard, but his nephew who saw him before he waslost, noticed that he was freshly saved.
Another contradiction was the fact that he had not told Mezidakis’ family that he had met him 24 hours ago, something she revealed to “Tunnel”.
It seems that the missing person had fallen in love with the foreigner, who, seeing that she no longer had any financial benefit from this relationship, and asked him to brake up.
“This woman weakened him financially …”
This relationship had a devastating effect on Kyriakos. According to relatives, she helped her financially, so she could not cover his own obligations. He came to the point of asking for loans from his sister.
His sister, speaking to Tunnel, said that Metzidakis wanted to see the younger woman but she refused. As her brother told her shortly before she was gone, she would go to the bar where she worked the night . She had heard him talking to his girlfriend fifteen days before disappearing.
With his ex-companion and mother, Georgia Atsalaki had good relationships. She described him in “Tunnel” as a man who could afford a comfortable life. She learned about his connection with the young Romanian and the problems he faced after his disappearance.
His girlfriend would meet him on the day he was lost …
The mobilization of his unfortunate man was great. They were looking for him at beaches, caves and cliffs without results. His son, Panagiotis Metzidakis, met his father’s Romanian girlfriend and after persistent questions she revealed that he had spoken by telephone on eleven o’clock at night before the day he disappeared and arranged to meet in the afternoon of the next day.
After examining his cell phone, it appeared that the traces of Metzidakis were lost between 13 and 14 October 2016.
“He told me to meet and got lost …”
Tunnel found the young Romanian, with whom Metzidakis had a relationship. With the discretion needed, the broadcast conveyed everything she supported. She admitted that she had a relationship with Metzidakis and was upset when she learned that he was missing.
She described him as a man closedto himself who visited her at the bar where she was working without consuming large quantities of alcohol. She also claimed that she did not have the key of the house that was maintained by Metzidakis.
During her last telephone conversation with Kyriakos, she said that there was a sound like he was near the sea, although he did not confirm it.
The second house of the missing person hid elements …
Tunnel camera, along with his missing man’s son, was found in the second house he held, about four kilometers outside of Chania. There he used to meet his Romanian girlfriend.
When the disappearance became known, relatives opened the apartment to see if the missing person was there. Then they settled and cleared the space.
Nevertheless, the son of Metzidakis identified some evidence that testified his father’s presence.
Note that he had used his dental floss. His father’s cigarette was left on the table, and t was not there when his relatives cleaned up the house. He also saw a used towel hung on the wardrobe sheet. Also, the bed was found unsteady while a few days ago his sister had been laid down.
Upon prompting the broadcast, Panagiotis went to Chania Police and asked for a check from the Forensic at the house, even late.
“I saw him coming here with this girl”
Neighbors often saw Metzidakis in the second house he kept outside of Chania, along with his foreign girlfriend.
A young man who keeps an apartment next to his own, spoke to the show’s camera. He claimed that Metzidakis used to go to this place, together with the girl, the meridian and the afternoon hours. Sometimes they were visiting both the apartment more often in the day and in the evening. He had not heard beatings between the missing person and his girlfriend. She had only once understood that she was trying to find her another job.
“This girl gave another picture of my uncle …”
What his girlfriend’s young girlfriend supported in the show’s journalist was different from his nephew opinion , who had seen him before he disappeared. He said that because he worked close to his uncle’s , he visited him at least two to three times a week. One day before Kyriakos Metzidakis was lost, his nephew went to meet him. His uncle stepped out of his room to welcome him, and he looked very fond and very pleasant.
He stressed that contrary to what his girlfriend had said about his appearance, that he was lost in the sense of being a priest, his uncle that day was freshly dressed. In fact, as he said, he was not used to being unsure for more than two days.
Prosecution inquiries
Following the revelations of “Tunnel”, the prosecutor found the seriousness of the case and ordered investigations from divers to the ports of Chania.
On Friday 17 March, the divers gave the response to the family of Kyriakos Metzidakis five months after his disappearance. They found in the bottom of the Souda harbor the car of the unfortunate man with the same dead man in the driver’s seat.
The car was located upside down at a depth of ten meters and at a distance of ten to fifteen meters from the jetty, with the windows open and the unfortunate man wearing the seat belt.
Corroner Stamatis Belivanis, who ruled out the possibility of a criminal act, went to the spot.
He did not find any bullet wound, sharp object or strangulation. It was defined as the time of death in mid-October 2016, coinciding with the period when the income disappeared.
The son of the unfortunate man, Panagiotis Metzidakis, in his pain of losing his father, expressed to Tunnel his dissatisfaction with the way the authorities handled the case. He stressed that the police started to look interesting when the Tunnel tried to shed light on the case.
As he told the show, when he asked Chania Police to appoint an expert to examine the car, they told him that it was not necessary. But when their family informed them of their intention to nominate themselves, they finally said that they would do the same, which was done.
Panayiotis in his telephone conversation with the show, thanked Angeliki Nikolouli for her contribution to the case, saying:
“Without your help my father would still be at the bottom of the sea.”
