Α hunter accidentally detected human bones in the summer of 2017 in the steep place of Petra-Theodora of Parnitha and anonymously alerted the Authorities.
Bone testing with the DNA identification method showed that they belonged to Panagiotis Argyropoulos 40 year old, whose family was looking for him in “Tunnel”.
From the macroscopic examination of the bones there were no lesions due to criminal activity and possibly the unlucky man fell victim to an accident in the mountain.
The strange story was played in June 2013 on the road to Parnitha. On Sunday 23rd of the month, Panagiotis Argyropoulos left his house where he stayed with his wife in Metamorfosi, Attica, for a walk.
A few hours later his car a beige Ford Fiesta was accidentally detected by a Civil Protection officer of the Municipality of Fili patrolling for fire protection, abandoned on the provincial road of Fili Dervenohoria near Hassia. When the hours passed and the owner had not returned, he informed the police. The car was unlocked and the keys on the starter. The license, the driving license, the glasses of myopia and the missing person’s money were found in the glove compartment. All that was missing was his cell phone.
His family turned to Tunnel to solve the mystery and immediately an operation was set up after Panagiotis used to go in the area of Parnitha for hiking and cycling.
Investigations from the Police, EMAK team with detective dogs and volunteers of the Hellenic Red Cross, did not detect his traces at that time.
The answer was ultimately in the insolence of the mountain that Panayiotis loved. Just two kilometers away from where his car was spotted …
