Markella Verami was found alive shortly before 9 am on Saturday, June 13, in the area of Eastern Thessaloniki near Nea Krini, quite far from the area that disappeared.
According to police sources, the owner of a gas station found the 10-year-old student wandering around and called for immediate action. Police rushed to the scene and transported the 10-year-old to a hospital for the necessary medical examinations and to be examined by child psychologists. The owner of the gas station was impressed that the little girl was with the school bag and kept it near him until the police received it. A friend of his who was at the gas station reportedly spoke for a while with the little girl who told her that she had been handcuffed and abused, something that has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
According to the information of “Tunnel”, the student is in good health, she does not have obvious signs of abuse while it seems that she had slept at night. The first picture that the authorities have is that an unknown woman had indeed taken her with her and the police officers of the Department for the Protection of Minors of Thessaloniki Security will try to find out exactly what happened.
A forensic examination was ordered to determine whether any form of abuse had taken place. The authorities’ investigation continues and is in full swing.
The student was lost at noon on Thursday, June 11 on the way from her school to her home, which is only 100 meters away.
According to her classmate’s testimony, the little girl was followed by an unknown woman who appeared in front of her. He seemed to know her and walked away with her holding her hand.
Relatives, volunteers, reporters and viewers responded to the “Smile of the Child” alarm via the Amber Alert mechanism. On the night of Friday, June 12, the show was connected live with them outside the 10-year-old’s school, the 101st Elementary School in Toumpa, Thessaloniki.
The information that reached “Tunnel” was plenty. Some of them are considered particularly serious for further research.
The mysterious woman is wanted by the authorities, based on the testimony of Markella’s classmate. She is about 30-35 years old, with a moderate to slim body type, wore black leggings, a black blouse and had red hair that maybe was wearing a wig.
