The mobilization of Tunnel’s volunteers-friends at night was moving. They immediately responded to Angeliki Nikolouli’s appeal and literally plowed down the center of Athens, the Schisto area, and Perama, where Eleni Demesticha was last seen.
Unfortunately, however, the searches didn’t give any credible lead until the early morning hours. Ordinary citizens have shown more sensitivity than competent authorities who have declared ineligible to make the disappearance public, despite her serious health problems.
Her anxious daughter found herself in the Tunnel studio with her aunt in the hope of shining a light of life.
They appealed to anyone who might see Eleni Demesticha, who might be in distress, to keep her and to alert the authorities.
A Tunnel journalist went live from Perama and spoke to the taxi driver allegedly transporting her to Salamina in a café, on the day of her disappearance.
“She stayed there for a few hours to relax as she initially told me and late in the afternoon they called me from the cafe to take her back to the boats to leave”, Tasia Hatzi told the show.
“I left her at the ticket office but didn’t notice if she finally got a ticket to return to Perama. If I had understood her situation, I would have kept her and informed the authorities.”
Helen Demesticha has a height of 1.65 and on the day she was lost she was wearing black trousers and a black shirt with blue embroidery. Her characteristic is that she has a difficulty in her speech and has a slight tremor on her hands.
