Nikolaos Aerakis, 44 years old, has been missing since the afternoon of Thursday, February 16, from the area of Gazi in Heraklion, after being injured in a traffic accident.
According to his relatives speaking to “Tunel”, from the accident he had with his car, he hit his head. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent tests, but nothing serious was found.
But he was completely confused and the doctors did not help him to calm down.
Returning home, he took his mother’s car, Renault Clio, silver in color, registration number HIT – 7923 and disappeared.
The car was found abandoned two days later in Paleokastro, which is why investigations were focused on the surrounding area from the first moment. EMAK participated with a specially trained dog, port guards, divers, and speleologists.
“He was in a state of shock…”
The “Tunnel” was found at the place of disappearance, in Paleokastro, with the brother of the missing man, Manos Aerakis.
“It all started with an accident that happened early on the morning of Thursday, February 16. He had been out with some friends the night before, went back to get cigarettes and crashed. He hit a tree and paramedics who found him said he was in a state of shock. They went by ambulance to Venizelio and the doctors said that he suffered a post-traumatic shock. He also ended up in another hospital, in PAGNI, where at that time he was in charge. There they did a CT scan of his brain. They then left for home, but he still didn’t feel well,” he said.
As he points out, he suddenly disappeared in an instant.
“He suggested to our mother that they go for a walk around seven in the afternoon. She agreed and by the time she got to the kitchen, she heard the door close. Since then we haven’t seen him again. He took our mother’s car. A hunting friend found it two days later. There were many and extensive investigations by friends and volunteers, in addition to those of the authorities.”
The car was found on the side of the road heading towards Heraklion. It was unlocked, with the keys in the ignition. His cell phone and police ID were found in the passenger seat.
His brother having literally plowed the area of Heraklion, appeals to anyone who saw or knows anything to contact him, the authorities or the broadcast.
“We are looking into what direction he might have taken. So I would like to appeal to anyone in the surrounding area, as well as others, on the side of Gazi and Ammoudaras, to check any cameras facing the road from Thursday night until Saturday.”
“Is he hiding in shock on the mountain?”
Manos Aerakis says that due to the confusion caused by the traffic accident he had, he probably chose a place to hide.
“We cannot explain exactly what happened to him. What is certain is that he is confused. Unfortunately, they didn’t give him any sedative. I think he might even be hiding. He is a nature lover, he was always in the mountains. He may have gone to some mountainous region. Nevertheless, we do not want to rule out the possibility that he went to Heraklion. I would like to appeal to the residents who are in the mountainous area, to those who wander or go for a walk, to be careful and if they can inform us.”
The strange thing about the whole case and what makes his brother worry even more about his fate, is that after a few days, Nikos would take the exam to get a professional diploma, so he didn’t intend to leave.
“He is a professional rental driver and he wanted to reach a higher level, to see a bit of the VIP transfer part as well”, he emphasized.
Nikolaos Aerakis has a height of 1.70, black hair and brown eyes. On the day she went missing, she was wearing an olive jacket, gray pants, a black top and black sneakers.
His disappearance has been marked as a Missing Alert following a prosecutor’s order and the request of his family, as there may be reasons that put his life in danger.
