Justice for the Athenian lady

For the second time, after ten years, Justice spoke. Justice was dispensed to one of the greatest thrillers that ‘Tunnel’ had revealed. The thriller about the disappearance of a wealthy Athenian lady, Maria Niotaki, from a central bank.

The Court of Appeal of Athens, imposed prison sentence from six to eight years, along with restrictive measures, on four defendants. Among them a lawyer, a building constructor and the life companion of Niotaki’s cousin and murderer.

The accusations were fraud and forgery against the victim. The notary, who was accused of the plot that was build up against Niotaki right before she was murdered, did not sit in the dock as she had been dispensed with decision. It was five years ago, when the Mixed Jury Court condemned Leonidas Varas with imprisonment for life for the murder of his cousin Maria Niotaki, despite the fact that her body was never found and he himself never confessed his crime. Varas- who is no longer in life-had set up with the rest of the defendants, a gang in order to usurp the poor lady’s fortune. Their accessories had been in a particular bank as well, however, none of the bankers was punished.

The thriller that had frozen the public opinion in December 2002 had brought to light the program ‘Fos in the Tunnel’ and Ageliki Nikolouli was one of the main witnesses.
