With an unanimous and detailed decision, the judges of the Athens Criminal Court refer Roula Pispirigou to the bench of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens for two felonies, homicide with intent and attempted homicide with her own child as a victim, specifically her first-born daughter Georgina .
At a time when the main investigation into the case of the murder of the accused’s two youngest children, Malena and Iris, is in full progress, the judges of the Athens Misdemeanor Council, assessing the evidence collected by the 18th regular investigator Christina Salappa, at a rapid pace given the evidentiary difficulties of the case, they pointed the way to the bench for Roula Pispirigou, who still denies taking her child’s life.
Specifically, the judges of the Council, led by the president of the first-instance courts Georgios Kasimis and members of the first-instance judges Charalambos Georgakopoulos and Theodora Traianidou, describe step by step the history of the case that has shocked public opinion, illuminating both the defendant’s way of acting and the motive pushed her into it.
Like the prosecutor Giorgos Noulis who had formulated the relevant proposal, they judged that the defendant committed the criminal acts attributed to her with malice and in a calm state of mind.
However, court officials differ on how the offense of attempted murder against little Georgina was committed. Evaluating the testimonies of doctors and experts, they conclude that in April 2021, Roula Pispirigou tried to kill the child not by suffocation but by administering ketamine, but without succeeding due to the immediate intervention of the doctors.
The accused allegedly finally managed to complete her criminal plan in January 2022, when her child was hospitalized at the “PAIDON” hospital.
The judges state, among other things, that the blocking of the nose and mouth is not an appropriate way to cause an objection, noting that the accused administered an unidentified substance, a central nervous system depressant, with a probability approaching certainty that this substance was ketamine. A substance that is among those capable of causing a heart attack and which caused zero oxygen saturation.
Regarding the circumstances of the child’s death, the judges fully adopt what the prosecutor G. Noulis mentions in his proposal, regarding the administration of the lethal substance on January 29, 2022 in the hospital where the 9-year-old girl was being treated, at a time when only his mother was in the room. The judges also shed light on the motive of the criminal act in their decision, stating that Roula Pispirigou’s obsession with her husband and father of her three children, Manos Daskalakis. They point out that all the incidents happened when she was separated from her husband and they attribute her actions to her personality, based also on the description of the special expert appointed during the judicial investigation of the case by the investigator Christina Salappa.
