The trial of the case of the kidnapping and murder of 26 year old Marios Papageorgiou is ongoing.

The Second Mixed Jury Court Athens on Tuesday, March 4th examined the son of accused Anastasios Basantis.

As he said the alleged mastermind had friendly relations with his father and took care to get himself respite from the army thanks to his high connections in this area and the police. As he claimed he had seen the main accused with a gun. Referring to the night of the kidnapping of Marios he argued that the alleged mastermind called his father at 2 a.m. and not earlier. His father left the house to meet him and returned about an hour later. A few days later and while Basantis was ready to travel to Andros , the wife of the main accused who also is accused, called him on the phone and demanded to cancel his trip. The reason was that he had to do another threatening phone call to the mother of Marios Indirectly threatened him saying that: ” You also have children make sure to finish the job… “.

In court testified witnesses of one of the eight defendants Aristidis Korentios. They claimed that he was in Evia the time of the abduction of Marios . These testimonies have given rise to read from the court what Korentios testified at the police. In this He said that the main accused in order to persuade him to take part in the kidnapping of Marios mother showed as a drug user and impostor who wanted to put in hand the estate of his mother. Korentios then proposed as assistants two of his relatives, now also accused in the case. As shown by the reading, Aristideis Korentios had no left the plan to kidnap Varvara Theodorakis, as he had claimed in his apology.

The court heard another close friend of Marios. He said that Marios had no particular familiarity with technology and specialized machinery. He said the only trip that Marios was planning to have abroad was what he intended to with his friends at USA sometime in the winter of 2012.

The trial will be continuing on Tuesday, March 11th with the testimonies of geneticist Giorgos Fitsialos and journalist Angeliki Nikolouli.
