In front of the irrefutable evidence that Chania Police had, one of the two brothers who had been arrested for the homicide of the elderly, confessed and indicated the spot where they buried him with the car he was driving on the day he disappeared on March 7, from Hora Sfakion .
The old man’s body and his jeep were spotted in a field in Platanias, Chania.
As the police said, one of the two brothers, in a further confrontation with Dourountakis, shot him in the body with a shotgun. Then, along with his brother, they placed his corpse in his car and pushed it over with a machine in order to move it from the point. They loaded it into a dacha owned by them and carried it to a field about sixty kilometers away.
There, a brother who owns the quarry borrowed from a friend an excavator on the pretext that he had a job in the area and opened a pit of six meters deep, which became the tomb of the elder. The perpetrators with the help of the machine covered the body and the car with soil.
A blood smear, a cell phone signal, and video footage were the elements that helped the policemen unfold the “skein” of this strange extinction, which turned out to be hiding behind a wild crime.
The victim had two mobile phones. One’s signal was last passed to the quarry area and the other three hours later, from where his body was found. The police officers then identified, from the very first 24 hours of the disappearance of Dourountakis, material from a CCTV in the Platanias area, where the movements of the owner of the quarry in the area were recorded.
From the testimonies they took, they did figure out what had happened and decided to explore the entire quarry with a Criminal Investigation Squad. With a special infrared light, they spotted a single spot of blood in the quarry, which at the Criminal Laboratories showed that it belonged to Dourountakis.
Police officers went to the area where was the field “grave,” and from calculations they made, dug a meter away from the pit that had been opened by the perpetrators, but without being able to locate the 70 year old corpse.
They placed their investigation data in the Prosecutor’s and Investigator’s positions, and thus the arrest warrants were issued at the expense of the perpetrators who, despite their initial refusal, confessed to the crime.
On the morning of Friday, the two siblings were brought before the Chania Investigator to apologize, under security measures, as relatives of the unfortunate elderly tried to lick them.
