From a TV show it seems that the E.K. got the idea to attack Ioanna Paliospyrou with the vitriol. She claimed this in her apology to the Mixed Jury Court of Athens, stating that she did not know that Ioanna could die.
“I am not a murderer,” the accused testified in court, while she stated that the reason for her heinous crime was the 40-year-old man with whom she had a free casual relationship. According to her, he had brought her to despair and had created insecurity and suspicion.
“It all started when I met N **** in 2018 and we had developed a love affair. We were at regular intervals as it appears from our telephone conversations “, said the 36-year-old, starting her apology at the trial and continued saying:
“I asked him directly what was happening with Ioanna but he did not answer. He left me in doubt. I tried to walk away because he would not let me move on in my life. I was watching them later. I followed her to see if she was with him, not to attack her. She had assured me that she had nothing to do with this man and I saw from the activity on Facebook that these were not correct. We knew each other, but not that well and there was no reason for her to respect me.”
The accused, in the continuation of her apology, stated that she was inspired by the idea for the attack with the vitriol on Ioanna:
“After a show I saw on TV about a vitriol attack as a means of revenge between women, the idea stuck in my head. I did not think she would die. From what I had heard it was not suggested as a lethal weapon, only as a means of revenge. I did not think she could swallow. I am not a murderer. I was obedient to the laws and I had a calm life,” she said.
In her apology, the 36-year-old stated that she encountered difficulties in finding and supplying sulfuric acid and that is why she headed to the center of Athens.
“I found a man of Pakistani origin outside a shop and he told me he could find it for me. In three days we made an appointment and he brought it to me. I asked him if he could find someone to do a job for me without telling him details and he would be paid. He gave me the phone number of a Pakistani but I could not contact him because he was talking in Farsi. When I got the liquid I poured it into a metal glass, not 1 liter because I would need a huge container and Ioanna would see it. It was 300 to 500 ml with a blue cap “.
Referring to the day of the savage attack against Ioanna, the accused said:
“I went down to the basement and waited for her. She was standing right in front of the elevator. I was by her side, I had no eye contact with her. As I threw it at her, she turned left and hit her in the face. I ran, got in the taxi, it left me in an irrelevant place not to betray where I was going and then I took another taxi.”
The 36-year-old then spoke about the day she was arrested:
“I remember the day I was arrested, as if I could forget it. I was not asked for an ID. They took my cell phone from my hands. The policeman who testified here was not present at the arrest, I deny it. I remember the people very well. ”
The accused apologized…
In her apology, the accused apologized to Ioanna, to the victim’s family but also to her own family, who created all this for them, but also to the Greek society for her act. Ioanna asked the accused to tell the whole truth.
