The “Light in the Tunnel” was the one that identified the most critical eyewitness and no matter how hard some tried to distort the reality, the case will take the path of Justice.
In a press conference given by the family’s lawyers, on Wednesday, October 12, they spoke of a series of serious judicial contradictions and equally serious extra-institutional interventions throughout the investigation of the case.
Zoe Konstantopoulou hinted that Sifis Valyrakis’ many years of involvement with the investigation of the SIEMENS scandal, for which he had previously also served as president of the Parliament’s investigative committee, may not be unconnected.
The complaints
The family’s lawyers denounced the tactics of top judicial officials who manipulated the story and their connection to the entourage of Justice Minister Costas Tsiaras who, they allege, called the victim’s wife shortly after the initial filing of the case with the Ministry of Justice to convince her that it was accident, after a relevant instruction he had received from the Prime Minister himself, as the lawyers reported.
The lawyers of the family particularly focused on the fact that although the two perpetrators were remanded in custody with a will that acknowledges their guilt, nevertheless, it was decided that there were no reasons for their further remand and they were temporarily released. Nikos Konstantopoulos also referred to other events that expose the same persons and referred to the filing of the lawsuit against the prosecutor, but also to the appeal that was accepted by the appeals prosecutor’s office of Evia, forwarding the case to the prosecutor’s office of Thebes.
The porters
In the lawsuit against the port officials who handled the case, which was also initially filed by the Maritime Court of Piraeus but was appealed and accepted, he stated:
“We see a series of events happening with unusual speed to get all the appeals on file but all of them were reinstated after the appeals which proves not only the dynamics of the events but also that despite the efforts made by the transit centers to present the history of the accident experienced judges shed light on the case until the truth shines”, commented Nikos Konstantopoulos.
In general, it seems, as the experienced lawyer argued, that at the initial stage of investigating the case, the family encountered denial and filing everywhere. In a second stage and when the family and its lawyers insisted, the evidence presented was recognized, that it was clearly an intentional criminal act. The press conference was moderated by the daughter of Nikos Konstantopoulos, Zoe Konstantopoulou, while on the panel was the son of the deceased Alexis Valyrakis who referred to the findings of the medical examiner which proved that it was a murder. Present were the brother of the deceased, Andreas Valyrakis, as well as the family lawyers and personal friends of Sifi Valyrakis, Manolis Fotakis and Vassilis Lembesis.
